Sapodilla

Sapodilla

Originating in the Yucatan peninsula, the Sapodilla has become a favorite delicacy in many Asian and Latin cuisines. With its sweetness and the soft, grainy texture of its flesh, the Sapodilla flavor resembles a Pear covered in brown sugar. When a scratch on the brown skin reveals a yellow color, the fruit is mature and ready to harvest. Do not eat until ripened, as the unripe fruit is extremely astringent and will dry out the mouth. Sapodillas are ripen when they are soft and have a sweet aroma.
